Transformation is a central aspect of folk traditions in the Tohoku region of Japan. As part of festival traditions, people dress in elaborate costumes and transform into heavenly messengers as a tribute to the gods. In this workshop, participants are invited to cut, paste, draw, and paint three dimensional masks that can be used to explore the interactive exhibition, BAKERU: Transforming Spirits, and be empowered to transform into the alter-egos of their imagination—whether it be a superhero, demigod, or creature from another universe.

Participants are invited to wear their personalized masks, which include a motion sensor sticker, into the exhibit allowing the wearer to interact with the various deities awaiting inside. Afterwards, guests can take home and share their creations with family and friends.

This workshop is suitable for children and artists of all ages. We kindly ask that children are accompanied by a parent or guardian.

*Workshop will be offered while supplies last.

Registration

Walk-ins only. Please make payment at the workshop.
