As part of JAPAN HOUSE Los Angeles’ fifth anniversary celebration, we’re partnering with Ovation Hollywood to present a special free movie night featuring snacks, prizes, and the hit film “Detective Pikachu”. The film was selected to honor the “POKÉMON X KOGEI | Playful Encounters of Pokémon and Japanese Craft,” opening on July 25, and will be screening in the Ovation Hollywood Center courtyard as a fun, free summer activity for the whole family to enjoy.

Guests can arrive as early as 5 pm to check-in at the Ovation Hollywood table to receive a free Ovation Hollywood blanket to keep, complimentary popcorn, and discounted treats from the TCL Chinese Theatre Concessions Stand. All check-ins will be automatically entered in a raffle to win vouchers for movie tickets at the TCL Chinese Theatre, and tickets to the LA Phil at The Hollywood Bowl. Early arrivals (before the 7 pm screening), can also enjoy lawn games, crafts at the LA Public Library table, and visit the POKÉMON x KOGEI exhibition for free, so there will be plenty of fun awaiting!

As the sun sets and the movie begins, audiences can sit in chairs or the sprawling lawn to experience the hilarious and heartwarming "Detective Pikachu" on the big screen under Ovation's dramatic tower arch.

About the Film

When star detective Harry Goodman vanishes under mysterious circumstances, his 21-year-old son, Tim (Justice Smith), embarks on a quest for the truth. Assisting him in this pursuit is none other than Detective Pikachu (voiced by Ryan Reynolds), Harry's Pokémon companion known for his witty banter and endearing detective skills. As Tim discovers his unique ability to communicate with Pikachu and they explore Ryme City, where humans live in coexistence with Pokémon, they form a new partnership to untangle the mystery that lies before them. With humor, action, and heartwarming moments, this unique friendship saves the day.
